Luis Gil: The Yankees’ Unexpected Ace
Luis Gil has emerged as one of the Yankees’ most surprising and valuable contributors this season. After a brief major league debut in 2021, he missed nearly all of the 2022 and 2023 seasons due to Tommy John surgery. While working his way through the Yankees’ farm system, Gil wasn’t considered a top prospect, largely because his limited pitch repertoire suggested he might be better suited for a relief role. However, this year, he’s mastered his fastball-slider combination, becoming one of the team’s best starting pitchers when they’ve needed it most.
