A New Dawn: Boston Celtics Official Announce their New Head Coach…

On Thursday,  Celtics officially announced Tyler Lashbrook as the franchise’s new head coach, marking the tenth head coach in the team’s history.

“It’s an exciting time to be involved in the G League for both players and coaches,” said Lashbrook. “There’s no better development platform in the world. I’m beyond thrilled for this opportunity to lead the Maine Celtics. I want to thank Joe Mazzulla, Brad Stevens, and the entire Boston Celtics organization for trusting me with this role. I’m honored and grateful to take on this responsibility.”

Lashbrook joined the Boston Celtics last season as a player development coach after previously serving in the same role with the Philadelphia 76ers from 2018 to 2023. He began his coaching journey with the 76ers as a basketball operations intern and video coordinator from 2014 to 2018.

Lashbrook steps into the position vacated by Blaine Mueller, who led Maine to its first G League Finals appearance last season. Mueller has since joined Charles Lee’s coaching staff with the Charlotte Hornets. Lee, formerly Joe Mazzulla’s lead assistant with the Boston Celtics, earned his first head coaching opportunity in the NBA.

In addition to Lashbrook’s appointment, the Maine Celtics announced their full coaching staff for the upcoming season. Steve Tchiengang, promoted to associate head coach, returns for his second season with the team, as does assistant coach Taaj Ridley. New additions include Landon Tatum, a former player development lead for the Washington Wizards since 2016, and Brendan Baker.
