As the Atlanta Braves inch closer to the MLB postseason, a familiar face is hoping to remain a part of their journey. A.J. Minter, a beloved figure in Atlanta, has expressed his desire to stay with the team long term.
Minter, who underwent season-ending left hip surgery in August, has been a key contributor to the Braves’ success in recent years, including their World Series victory in 2021. Now, as he enters free agency, he’s pleading his case to team management.
“My time here has been everything,” Minter told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The Braves took a chance on me, drafting me when I had Tommy John. They had faith in me, and I was brought up to the minor leagues pretty quickly.”
Despite facing injuries and challenges throughout his career, Minter has consistently performed at a high level. Before his hip injury, he appeared in 39 games this season, registering a 2.62 ERA and 1.02 WHIP.
While Minter’s future with the Braves remains uncertain, it’s clear that he’s eager to stay in Atlanta. However, the team will need to evaluate their options and make a competitive offer to retain him. With other key players like Max Fried also entering free agency, the Braves may face tough decisions in the coming months.
