Touching News:  Texas’ Quarterback Break Spine…

As Texas prepares for their season opener against Colorado State, there are no new injuries to report. The No. 4 Texas Longhorns have managed to stay relatively healthy during the final weeks of fall practice. Head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed earlier this week that the team is free of any new injuries heading into the regular season, which kicks off on August 31 against the Colorado State Rams.

The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Below is a detailed look at the injury report for the Week 1 matchup between Texas and Colorado State:

Texas Football Injury Report vs. Colorado State

  • CJ Baxter Jr., RB (Out)
  • Christian Clark, RB (Out)

Texas will be missing two scholarship running backs for the entire 2024 season due to lower-body injuries sustained during fall practice. Sophomore running back CJ Baxter Jr. suffered a season-ending PCL tear early in camp. He underwent successful knee surgery last week and is expected to return for the start of the 2025 season.

Last season, Baxter rushed for 659 yards and five touchdowns, in addition to recording 24 catches for 156 receiving yards during his freshman year.

With Baxter sidelined, junior running back Jaydon Blue will start in the backfield for the Longhorns this season. Blue rushed for 398 yards and three touchdowns last season, also contributing 14 catches for 135 receiving yards and one touchdown reception.

True freshman Christian Clark is the other Longhorns’ running back who is out for the entire season due to a lower-body injury. Clark suffered a torn Achilles on a non-contact play during team drills in preseason camp.

Colorado State Injury Report vs. Texas

  • Nuer Gatkuoth, DE (Out)
  • Jaxxon Warren, TE (Out)

According to the Coloradoan, redshirt sophomore defensive end Nuer Gatkuoth will miss Week 1 for Colorado State due to a turf toe injury. This is a significant loss for Colorado State, as Gatkuoth is one of the most productive returning players on the Rams’ defensive front.

Additionally, sophomore tight end Jaxxon Warren, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound JUCO transfer from Flower Mound, TX, will be out for the game against Texas due to a shoulder injury sustained during fall camp.
