Breaking News: Maple Leafs New Dawn; Steve Sullivan Takes Over The Helm Of Leafs…

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a significant coaching addition by bringing Steve Sullivan on board. Sullivan has joined the AHL’s Toronto Marlies as an assistant coach, where he will work alongside head coach John Gruden.

Steve Sullivan, 50, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He previously served as the Assistant General Manager for the Arizona Coyotes from 2017 to 2021, during which time he also oversaw operations for their AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners. Before stepping into the assistant GM role, Sullivan contributed to Arizona’s player development, holding positions as both a coach and director in the 2016-17 season.

While Sullivan was Assistant General Manager of the Arizona Coyotes from May 2020 to July 2021, the team posted a regular season record of 57-55-14. However, it was his tenure as General Manager of the Tucson Roadrunners that truly stood out. Under his leadership, the Roadrunners compiled an impressive record of 112-65-11-6, securing two Pacific Division Championships over three seasons. Sullivan’s management style was instrumental in establishing the Roadrunners as a dominant force in the Pacific Division. The Marlies now hope he can bring that same level of success and expertise to their team as they aim for a championship.

Hailing from Timmins, Ontario, Steve Sullivan had a distinguished NHL career, playing 1,011 regular-season games and 50 playoff games with teams like the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Nashville Predators. Throughout his career, he tallied 290 goals and 457 assists.

Drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the ninth round as the 233rd overall pick in the 1994 NHL Draft, Sullivan defied the odds, achieving a remarkable NHL career despite being one of the last players selected that year.
