The Ottawa Senators have signed out forward Nick Cousins to a four-year contract worth $4.2-million, as reported by hockey insider Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff.

Cousins, 31, played for the Florida Panthers during the 2023-24 season, where he recorded seven goals and eight assists, totaling 15 points over 69 regular-season games. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he contributed one assist in 12 games, playing a role in the Panthers’ historic first Stanley Cup win.

Over his 10-year NHL career, Cousins has accumulated 71 goals and 109 assists, making for 180 points in 592 regular-season games. His career includes stints with the Panthers, Nashville Predators, Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, and Philadelphia Flyers. In the playoffs, Cousins has added four goals and 11 assists across 63 games.

Cousins was originally selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Before his NHL career, he played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Soo Greyhounds, where he tallied 102 goals and 189 assists for 291 points over 264 regular-season games. His standout junior year was in 2012-13 when he scored 27 goals and 76 assists for 103 points in 64 games.

The Senators finished the last season with a 37-41-4 record, totaling 78 points, placing them seventh in the Atlantic Division and third-last in the Eastern Conference.

In the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Ottawa selected defenseman Carter Yakemchuk with the No. 7 overall pick. The right-handed defenseman from the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen had an impressive season, scoring 30 goals and 41 assists for 71 points, along with 120 penalty minutes. Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis highlighted Yakemchuk’s potential, noting that while his defensive play needs refinement, his offensive output as a third-year defenseman exceeded expectations. Ellis suggested that with further development, Yakemchuk could become a high-output defender in the NHL
