Here are some key insights shared by Hollander, as reported by Mariners insider Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports:

  • J.P. Crawford’s Rehabilitation Progress: Shortstop J.P. Crawford, who has been recovering from a right hand/pinky fracture, has been making strides in his rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma. Since the Rainiers did not have a game on Monday, Crawford participated in a simulated game at T-Mobile Park. With the Rainiers on the road in El Paso this week, Crawford is expected to take part in another simulated game on Tuesday. There’s a possibility he could return to the Mariners lineup before the series against the Rays concludes on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Crawford has faced multiple stints on the 10-day injured list this season. Despite having his best statistical year in 2023 with 19 home runs and an American League-leading 94 walks, he has struggled this season, posting a .204/.299/.347 slash line with a .645 OPS in 77 games. Crawford has maintained his power and patience at the plate, recording nine home runs and 38 walks so far. On his rehab assignment, Crawford is 1 for 6 with a walk in two games with Tacoma.

  • Victor Robles’ Status: Outfielder Victor Robles missed a second consecutive game after being hit on the finger by a pitch during a bunt attempt on Saturday. However, he was available off the bench for Tuesday night’s game and might start on Wednesday.
  • Updates on Yimi García and Gregory Santos: Right-handed relievers Yimi García and Gregory Santos are currently at the Mariners’ complex in Peoria, Arizona, with no specific timelines for their return. Both pitchers were expected to play key roles in Seattle’s bullpen after being acquired in trades, but injuries have delayed their contributions.

The 34-year-old García, who was acquired from the Blue Jays just before the MLB trade deadline, had a strong start with the Mariners, posting scoreless outings in six of his first seven appearances. However, he allowed at least one run in each of his next three outings before being placed on the 15-day injured list last Friday due to elbow inflammation. Hollander mentioned that García is expected to resume throwing this week, with hopes of a return sometime in September.

Santos, 24, joined the Mariners in an offseason trade with the White Sox but missed the first 3 1/2 months of the season due to a right latissimus dorsi strain. He returned to the injured list on August 2 with biceps inflammation. Hollander confirmed that Santos is currently throwing in Arizona.

  • Matt Brash’s Recovery: Another key reliever, Matt Brash, is reportedly “doing great” in his recovery process following season-ending Tommy John surgery in May. Hollander added that Brash will be with the team during their next homestand from September 10-19.

Monday’s series opener against the Rays was scheduled for a 6:40 p.m. start, with radio coverage beginning at 5:30 on Seattle Sports. For details on how to stream Mariners Radio Network broadcasts, click here.
