Just In: Yankees Big Infielder’s Performance Declined For…

New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu may be heading to the MLB injured list after taking a ball to the face during warmups before a game against the Colorado Rockies. The Yankees’ medical team is set to further assess him to determine how long he might be sidelined. The injury impacted the right side of LeMahieu’s face, and the training staff immediately tended to the 36-year-old before he was removed from the starting lineup.

Veteran DJ LeMahieu Injured Pre-Game

LeMahieu hasn’t had a strong season for the Yankees, holding a WAR of -1.6, with just two home runs and a .189 batting average. Despite his struggles, LeMahieu is a seasoned player, boasting four Gold Glove awards, two Silver Slugger awards, and three All-Star appearances. Following his removal from the lineup, Ben Rice stepped in at first base and took the ninth spot in the batting order. LeMahieu experienced discomfort in his jaw and cheek, and his removal from the lineup was a precautionary measure. The Yankees, already dealing with numerous injuries this season, didn’t want to take any risks, especially after the scary incident.

While the injury is unfortunate for LeMahieu, some may see it as a potential opportunity, given his difficult season. As he has aged, his performance has declined, and his roster spot could be filled by a younger player who might deliver better results. LeMahieu has been plagued by injuries over the past few years, which have negatively impacted his performance. As we await further updates on his condition, his status remains uncertain. Nonetheless, the fact that LeMahieu was able to walk to the dugout unassisted is a positive sign.
