Controversy News: FSU’s Director Clears The Air Regarding Beef With Former College Football Player…

Florida State fans in Ireland loudly expressed their displeasure with Kirk Herbstreit during the 2024 college football season opener against Georgia Tech in Dublin. The ESPN commentator had previously argued that Florida State, despite an undefeated regular season and winning the ACC championship, did not deserve a spot in the 2023/24 College Football Playoff, especially after their quarterback, Jordan Travis, suffered a season-ending injury. Herbstreit was among the first to suggest leaving the Seminoles out of the playoffs, which sparked outrage among the fanbase.

As College Gameday kicked off its first show of the season in Dublin, with Herbstreit on the panel, tens of thousands of Florida State fans made their displeasure known. Anti-Herbstreit signs were visible in the crowd, with some fans making explicit jabs at the former Ohio State quarterback.

Even before Travis’s injury, Herbstreit was skeptical about Florida State’s playoff credentials, and he continued to voice his opinion leading up to the official selection. This did not sit well with the fans, who have shown no signs of forgiving him.

While Michael Alford, Florida State’s Director of Athletics, had a lengthy conversation with Herbstreit earlier in the week to smooth things over, it was clear that the fans were still angry. Their hostility was evident the moment Herbstreit sat down, even before the live broadcast began.
