Breaking News: Auburn Tigers’ Head Coach Hugh Freeze Landed A 27-Year Old Fresh Tiger In A $45-Million Deal…

The Auburn Tigers made a significant move to bolster their wide receiver corps following last season. To strengthen the unit, head coach Hugh Freeze not only recruited four highly-touted freshmen, including top-50 prospects Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson, but also sought to add a seasoned veteran to the mix.

In a strategic acquisition, Auburn landed KeAndre Lambert-Smith, a 6-foot-1 wide receiver from Penn State with four years of college experience. Lambert-Smith is coming off a strong 2023-24 season, where he recorded 53 receptions for 673 yards and four touchdowns. These impressive stats placed him as the No. 68 transfer in the portal, making him Auburn’s top transfer pick-up.

Lambert-Smith spoke about his transition to Auburn, noting that while the change presented challenges, he was well-prepared for them. “I feel like it’s been a transition that I was kind of ready for,” he said. “I was a leader at my old spot, and now, being an older guy—a fifth-year player who’s graduated college—I see this as a good experience and a challenge I was ready for.”

He also shared how he’s been offering guidance to the younger players, particularly freshman Perry Thompson, who plays the same position. “I probably give the most advice to Perry,” Lambert-Smith said. “We’re at the Z together, so he’s around me the most during practice. I help him with little things like technique, or if he has a tough day, I try to keep him positive.”

The leadership role has also impacted Lambert-Smith’s own game, particularly in terms of his mental approach. “It’s probably had the biggest impact on me mentally,” he admitted. “I’m still figuring it all out, but with guys looking up to you, there’s an expectation to be consistent every day.”

Reflecting on his decision to transfer to Auburn, Lambert-Smith highlighted the opportunity to play in an offense that emphasizes the passing game. “Coming from a run-heavy offense, I wanted to be somewhere they throw the ball,” he explained. “The Auburn staff takes pride in getting the receivers involved, and that really caught my attention. I also wanted the chance to play in the SEC. It was a great opportunity
