Tate Rodemaker, a former backup quarterback for Florida State, is set to take the starting role at Southern Miss. The 27-year-old played a significant role in the Seminoles’ success during his time in Tallahassee, but his departure after the 2023 Orange Bowl left Florida State with only one scholarship quarterback on the roster.
Rodemaker, who was a 3-star prospect out of Valdosta, GA, joined Florida State in 2019. He was expected to play a key role in the team’s development under head coach Mike Norvell. Despite his potential, he found himself behind Jordan Travis and McKenzie Milton on the depth chart.
After announcing his transfer from Florida State, Rodemaker landed at Southern Miss. Now, he’s poised to finally get his chance to start at QB1 for the Golden Eagles. According to reports, Southern Miss is expected to name Rodemaker as their starting quarterback.
Rodemaker made a significant impact during his time at Florida State, appearing in 23 games and completing 68 of 118 passing attempts for 901 yards and seven touchdowns. He also made two starts, leading the Seminoles to victories over Louisville and Florida.
Despite his success, Rodemaker faced setbacks. He missed the 2023 ACC Championship due to an injury and was sidelined for part of the 2023 season after Travis went down with an injury. Despite these challenges, Rodemaker proved his ability to step up and contribute to the team’s success.
