The Milwaukee Brewers are riding high with their recent success, continuing their winning streak with a close 2-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday. A key contributor to this win was Freddy Peralta, who finally delivered a strong performance this August, helping the Brewers secure the victory at home.
Peralta, who struggled in his first two starts of the month—giving up eight earned runs on 13 hits over 11 innings—redeemed himself by holding the Guardians to just one earned run on four hits while striking out three over six innings.
“Freddy’s been throwing the ball well, but luck hasn’t been on his side,” said Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy after the game, according to the Associated Press (via ESPN).
Despite minimal run support, Peralta earned the win, with the Brewers’ bullpen stepping up to maintain the lead after he exited the game.
Joel Payamps, Jared Koenig, and Devin Williams combined to deliver three perfect innings, each contributing a strikeout, effectively shutting down the Guardians’ offense and securing the win for Milwaukee.
This season, Peralta, who turned 28 in June, holds an 8-7 record with a 4.00 ERA and a 1.209 WHIP across 25 starts.
The Brewers will look to sweep the Guardians in the series finale on Sunday, with Colin Rea set to take the mound. Milwaukee, currently on a four-game winning streak, will head to Busch Stadium to face the St. Louis Cardinals following Sunday’s game.
