Official Update: Grant Williams Strikes Gold with Luka Doncic Card, Jokes Mavs Star Might Offer $1 Million…

Grant Williams, who recently ventured into the world of basketball card collecting, hit the jackpot on his first try with a rare Luka Doncic card.

Williams humorously speculates that he could fetch $1 million from his former Dallas Mavericks teammate, Luka Doncic, for the card. The Charlotte Hornets forward purchased a $10,500 National Treasures box at Fanatics Fest in New York and was stunned to discover a rare Doncic rookie card inside.

“When I bought it, I asked, ‘How can I at least break even on this?’ They mentioned maybe pulling a Trae Young card, which might get me around $10,000,” Williams recounted. “But then I saw a blue streak, realized it was Luka Doncic, and when I noticed it was numbered nine out of ten, I just bolted.”

After showing off the card, Williams received offers of $250,000, $300,000, and even $500,000. Despite these generous bids, the 25-year-old is convinced that Doncic might be willing to pay even more.

“I feel like I owe Luka the first chance to buy it—he’d probably drop a million on this card,” Williams joked. “I tried to reach him via FaceTime, but he didn’t pick up since he’s in Slovenia. He’ll call back, and I’ll pitch it to him—this card is something else.”

The card features a patch from Doncic’s jersey along with his autograph. Williams plans to get it graded by PSA, believing it could score a perfect 10/10. Whether Doncic decides to shell out the big bucks or not, it seems there are plenty of others eager to do so.

Luka Doncic Teaches Grant Williams a Lesson After Trash Talk Incident

Williams’ tenure with the Dallas Mavericks was brief, having been traded to the Hornets less than a year after joining the team. However, during that short stint, Luka Doncic made sure to leave a lasting impression on him. Mavericks assistant GM Michael Finley recently shared a story of how Doncic schooled Williams during practice after the forward tried to get under his skin.

“One day in practice, Grant Williams decided to test Luka, thinking he wasn’t ready to compete that day,” Finley recalled. “During a scrimmage, Grant kept talking trash to Luka, but Luka finally said, ‘Okay,’ and proceeded to go on a 26-6 run by himself. He showcased everything—threes, post-ups, floaters—you name it.”

“Luka didn’t say a word, but everyone on the sidelines, including the coaches, was in awe. The lesson was clear: don’t poke the bear.”

Williams, who averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists during his time with the Mavericks, learned firsthand, just like Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns in the 2022 playoffs, that Luka Doncic is not someone you want to provoke on the court.
