As the Brewers prepare to honor Yount’s 50th anniversary in Major League Baseball this Sunday, the beloved shortstop opened up about his decision to remain loyal to Milwaukee. In a recent interview, Yount shared the heartfelt reason behind turning down lucrative offers to play for other teams.
“The fans of Milwaukee were making this effort for me not to leave,” Yount explained. “Kids and all of this. After I started getting all of that stuff, there was no way in the world I could leave.”
Yount’s connection to the city and its people ran deep. The outpouring of support from fans made it impossible for him to consider playing elsewhere. While he admitted to considering other opportunities, the overwhelming love from Milwaukee ultimately sealed his fate.
Though he never had the chance to win another World Series with the Brewers, Yount remains steadfast in his decision. “The smartest move I ever made was never leaving Milwaukee,” he said.
