Tennessee Volunteers EDGE rusher James Pearce Jr. is making waves as one of the nation’s top defensive talents. The sophomore’s breakout season, highlighted by 14.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, has earned him a spot on ESPN’s Preseason All-American list.

Head coach Josh Heupel has transformed Tennessee’s football program in recent years, with much of the attention focused on the high-scoring offense. However, the defense has also made significant strides, and Pearce is a prime example of the talent emerging on that side of the ball.

ESPN raves about Pearce’s impact, stating, “Pearce was one of the sport’s breakout stars a year ago and enters his junior season as one of the most feared pass rushers in the country.” His impressive statistics, including leading the SEC in sacks, solidify his reputation as a dominant force.

Pearce was a key member of Heupel’s first full recruiting class in 2022, showcasing the coach’s ability to identify and develop top talent. The young edge rusher has quickly become a cornerstone of Tennessee’s defense and a potential NFL prospect.

As the Volunteers prepare for the upcoming season, Pearce’s presence will be crucial to their success. His recognition as a preseason All-American is a testament to his exceptional abilities and the overall growth of Tennessee’s defense.
