A victory in the National League pennant race is within reach for the Brewers, who currently trail the Dodgers by 1.5 games for the second-best record. Securing one of the top two seeds in the league is crucial as it grants a bye to the Division Series, bypassing the perilous Wild Card round that eliminated Milwaukee last year.
Manager Pat Murphy, while acknowledging the importance of the upcoming series, emphasized the need to focus on the present. “We realize what the situation is,” Murphy said. “But the truth is, we have to play better.”
Several factors contributed to Sunday’s loss. Rookie sensation Jackson Chourio had an off day, while starter DL Hall, making his long-awaited return from injury, struggled to find his rhythm. Additionally, small errors proved costly, such as an intentional walk followed by an unintentional one that set up the go-ahead run.
Despite the setback, the Brewers did find some positives. Third baseman Joey Ortiz showcased his power with a two-run home run, and Hall’s return to the mound was a significant milestone.
