Auburn Football Lands Top Recruit Jared Smith
The Auburn Tigers’ recruiting success continues with the commitment of 5-star edge rusher Jared Smith.
Smith, from Thompson High School in Alabama (hometown of teammate and recent Auburn commit Anquon Fegans), announced his decision at a ceremony in Birmingham. Despite initial interest from other programs, Smith revealed a childhood connection to Auburn.
“I’m an underdog,” Smith said. “Everyone always picked Alabama in the Iron Bowl, but I chose Auburn. And then the Kick Six happened. It just started there.”
This loyalty, combined with the strong impression Auburn made during Big Cat Weekend, solidified Smith’s decision.
“Man, it’s just the people,” Smith said. “The culture, the atmosphere… the best recruiting class right now, and I wanted to be a part of that.”
Ranked as the #2 edge rusher and #2 overall recruit in Alabama for 2025, Smith becomes the highest-ranked player in Auburn’s already impressive class. The Tigers now boast commitments from eight of the top 10 players in the state, propelling their recruiting class to #5 nationally.
This continues a hot streak for Auburn, following the commitments of cornerback Blake Woodby, wide receiver Derick Smith (who flipped from Alabama), defensive lineman Antonio Coleman (another Alabama flip), and safety Anquon Fegans.
