The Arizona Cardinals have announced that their franchise quarterback will not be participating in the first preseason game.
While this decision was somewhat anticipated, head coach Jonathan Gannon officially confirmed today that quarterback Kyler Murray will not play in the preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints.
This decision opens the door for quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Clayton Tune, both of whom have faced challenges during Cards Camp 2024.
A key question arises: How much playing time will star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. receive in the preseason with Ridder on the field?
Given Harrison Jr.’s talent, it would make sense for him to play a series or two in the first two preseason games to prepare for week one against the Buffalo Bills.
However, considering the struggles Ridder and Tune have experienced, it’s uncertain how beneficial those reps will be for Harrison Jr.
As we approach the first preseason game, it will be interesting to see how Jonathan Gannon and his coaching staff manage the starters, though it’s clear that Murray will not be among them.
