The franchise has only won one NBA Finals in 2011 to show for it.

They’ve had plenty of great moments too, and are climbing the mountain to hopefully win another NBA Finals too, but there have been rough patches along the way as well.

Dallas, just like any other team, has had stretches where it feels like they’re on top of the world, and others where they’re at the bottom of the league.

10. The 1990s become the lost decade

While the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars saw success in the 1990s as the Cowboys won three Super Bowls and the Stars won the 1999 Stanley Cup, the same couldn’t be said for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks made the 1990 NBA Playoffs but were swept by the Trail Blazers in three games in the opening round. After getting swept, the team seemingly had a dark cloud over them.

The Mavericks missed the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons from 1991-2000. During that stretch, the Mavs had six different head coaches.

The worst of the 1990s stretch came in the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons as in those two seasons, the Mavs would combine for a 24-140 record; Dallas won 11 games in the 1992-93 season.

If there was one positive moment that came out of the lost decade it came in the 1994-95 season as current Mavs head coach Jason Kidd won Rookie of the Year.

The 1990s were the toughest and worst stretch for the Mavericks franchise as the team missed the Playoffs for a decade. No Mavs fan ever wants the 1990s to repeat itself again. This was a heartbreaking stretch for fans, but better days were ahead.
