Exciting: Mariners Rank First-Place With a Huge Win…

In a 6-3 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night, Jorge Polanco hit two solo home runs and an RBI single, leading the Seattle Mariners to their win. This result keeps the Mariners just one game behind first-place Houston in the AL West. Cal Raleigh hit his team-leading 21st home run, while Victor Robles contributed three hits and an RBI. Seattle (55-51) secured their second consecutive win, handing Chicago their 13th straight loss, just one shy of the team’s record for consecutive defeats. Despite having once led their division by 10 games, the Mariners have only three wins in their last 11 games. All-Star Randy Arozarena debuted for Seattle, batting second and playing left field after being traded from Tampa Bay on Thursday, and finished the game 1 for 4.

The Mariners have struggled offensively for much of the season but delivered another strong performance following their 10-0 win on Friday.

“The story for me is really offensively,” said Seattle manager Scott Servais. “Polo (Polanco) had a huge night with two home runs and a big RBI single at the end. Victor Robles, wow, what he’s done for our club, not just on the field (in center), but how he plays and the energy he plays with.”

Polanco’s sixth career multi-home run game gave him three home runs in his last two games and brought his total to nine for the season. His batting average has improved to .209 after a challenging first half.

“I’m feeling really good at the plate the last couple of games,” Polanco said. “You just got to keep working on things, and it’s paying off right now. I’m on time for the fastball right now; at the beginning of the season, it wasn’t too much.”

Randy Arozarena, the 2021 AL Rookie of the Year, went 1 for 4 with an infield single, a walk, and two strikeouts in his debut.

The White Sox (27-80) have lost 19 of their last 22 games and are over 53 games below .500 for the first time since they were 46-99 in 1932. Chicago has surpassed the 1962 Mets (28-79) for the worst record through 107 games.

Polanco and Raleigh hit back-to-back home runs off reliever Justin Anderson in the fifth inning as the Mariners hit consecutive homers for the second game in a row against Chicago and for just the second time this season.

Bryan Woo gave up one run on four hits over four innings, followed by five relievers. Collin Snider (1-1) pitched a scoreless fifth inning for the win.

Yimi Garcia, who was acquired from Toronto on Friday, made his Mariners debut with a perfect seventh inning. Andrés Muñoz recorded the final four outs for his 17th save.

Erick Fedde (7-4) allowed three runs on six hits in four innings, marking his shortest outing in 22 starts this season. Rookie Brooks Baldwin hit two doubles among his three hits. Fedde struggled in the fourth inning, giving up all three runs.

“Fedde started the game really sharp, ran into a little bit of trouble there,” said Chicago manager Pedro Grifol. “A couple of walks. Pitch count got really high. Threw 30 pitches in that inning, and we’re managing the workload with him.”

The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the third inning with Andrew Vaughn’s RBI single.

Seattle responded by taking a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. Polanco tied it at 1-1 with a home run to center field. After two walks, two-out RBI singles by Dylan Moore and Robles gave the Mariners the lead.

Raleigh’s 429-foot home run to right center and Polanco’s second home run of the night in the fifth extended the lead to 5-1.

Polanco added his third RBI in the eighth inning, making it 6-2.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Mariners: Woo exited early due to right hamstring tightness. RHP Gregory Santos, who tweaked his knee on Wednesday, got the first two outs in the eighth inning before Chicago loaded the bases and scored their final run on Muñoz’s wild pitch.

White Sox: Recalled RHP Davis Martin from Triple-A Charlotte, where he made his final rehab stop since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2023. Davis pitched 2 2/3 innings on Saturday, giving up one run on three hits. LHP Sammy Peralta was optioned to Charlotte.
