SEALED DEAL: Blue Devils’ Hires a Former Top Star, Enhancing Program with New Director of Player Development…

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University’s head softball coach Marissa Young has announced the appointment of Lisa Maulden as the Blue Devils’ new Director of Player Development, effective for the 2024-25 season.

Coach Young expressed her enthusiasm about Maulden’s addition to the team, highlighting her international experience and specialized knowledge. Young noted, “We are thrilled to have Lisa Maulden join our staff. Her extensive background in international softball and her profound expertise will make her an invaluable asset to our program. Lisa will oversee our catchers and play a significant role in data analysis, offensive strategies, and scouting. Her boundless energy and dedication are sure to bring a dynamic new element to our team.”

Maulden comes to Duke after a stint as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Seattle University, during the 2023-2024 season. At Seattle, she contributed to both offensive and defensive strategies, maintained game charts, and assisted with bullpen catching duties.

Expressing her excitement, Maulden said, “I am incredibly grateful and excited to take on the role of Director of Player Development for Duke. Coach Young’s achievements and the success she has garnered at Duke are a testament to the commitment and passion of her staff and players. I am eager to contribute to the program’s ongoing success and share my expertise with some of the top student-athletes in the sport.”

Before returning to Seattle, Maulden enjoyed a successful nine-year career playing professionally across Asia, Europe, and Australasia. She particularly shone in Japan’s top league, earning two All-League “Best Nine” awards as a designated player.

Maulden’s coaching career spans over nine years, covering professional, collegiate, and youth levels. Notably, she served as a coaching coordinator for the Hibiscus Coast Softball Club in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2020.

A 2015 graduate of Seattle University, Maulden left a lasting impact on the Redhawks’ program. She ranks fourth in career doubles (34), sixth in home runs (20), seventh in slugging percentage (.539), and eighth in RBIs (103). As a four-year starter, she earned All-WAC First Team and All-Tournament Team honors in 2014, boasting a career-best .359 batting average with 52 hits, 12 doubles, seven home runs, and 33 RBIs. Maulden also hit the first home run after the 2013 renovation of Logan Field.
