On the latest episode of “Busted Open Radio,” ECW icon Tommy Dreamer offered a critical review of the opening segment from WWE RAW on July 29th. The segment in question featured prominent wrestlers CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins and was designed to build hype for their upcoming SummerSlam 2024 match.
Dreamer expressed disappointment with the segment, suggesting that it missed an opportunity to be more impactful. He felt that the segment, which was intended to promote the high-stakes match between Punk and McIntyre, lacked the intensity it needed. Dreamer argued that the presentation was too cautious, likely due to the risk of injuries or the desire to preserve key elements for the big event. He implied that the segment played it too safe instead of pushing boundaries to generate greater excitement.
Regarding the audience’s reaction, Dreamer was underwhelmed. He noted that despite the segment’s nearly 17-minute length, the crowd’s engagement was less than expected. Dreamer hoped for a stronger connection from the audience to enhance the segment’s overall impact.
Dreamer also discussed Seth Rollins’ role as the special guest referee for the upcoming match, acknowledging that this role could add a layer of intrigue. He highlighted that the presence of a referee with a high-profile role like Rollins could lead to additional drama and conflicts among the wrestlers. Dreamer particularly appreciated McIntyre’s comments about being well-compensated for his performance, emphasizing that this added a personal and financial stake to the match, heightening its significance.
WWE SummerSlam 2024, featuring the match between Punk and McIntyre, is set to take place on August 3rd at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.
