Shocking: Yankees Accepts Defeat At The Last Hour…

One of the major moves during Tuesday’s MLB Trade Deadline was Jack Flaherty being traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Flaherty, known for his powerful pitching, almost ended up with the New York Yankees.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Yankees had initially agreed to a trade with the Tigers for Flaherty but pulled out after reviewing his medical records.

Flaherty has faced several injuries throughout his career, including shoulder issues that limited him to nine appearances in 2022 and a back issue that caused him to miss a start in early July. Despite these concerns, he has performed well recently, posting a 1.53 ERA, 0.736 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts in 17.2 innings over three July starts.

The Dodgers seem unconcerned about Flaherty’s health, planning for him to debut in their weekend series against the Oakland Athletics, as reported by Dodger Blue on X (formerly Twitter).

The Yankees have had their share of health issues with pitchers, such as Frankie Montas, who only made eight starts after being acquired in 2022, and Carlos Rodón, who struggled with injuries after signing in 2023.

Despite a challenging 2023, Flaherty has bounced back in 2024, recording a 7-5 record, a 2.95 ERA, a 0.956 WHIP, and 133 strikeouts in 106.2 innings with the Tigers before being traded to Los Angeles.
