Latest: Cardinals Prominent Veteran Star Has Been Extra-Critiqued and His Abilities Doubted Through Up-and-Down Start…

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is set to begin his sixth season at one of the most high-profile positions in sports, though he’s only turning 27.

“I’m still young,” Murray quipped when asked about entering his sixth year as a seasoned player.

Murray’s career has been a roller coaster, marked by being the No. 1 overall draft pick and enduring several losing seasons. As a high school quarterback accustomed to winning, his time in the league hasn’t been as expected.

Fully healthy and entering this season under new head coach Jonathan Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort, there’s a sense of renewal for both the Cardinals and their Pro Bowl quarterback.

“It’s great to be back, healthy, and starting the season with the team,” Murray said. “Last year was very different. Talking with Coach Izzy [Woolfork] and the trainers, I feel blessed to be healthy and doing what I love. It’s a blast.”

Murray’s journey has been scrutinized, especially after receiving a $230.5 million contract extension. Despite doubts about his leadership and abilities, he has overcome these narratives through rehabilitation and support from the new regime.

This offseason, Murray demonstrated his commitment by organizing and funding a team-bonding trip for 12 skill players to Los Angeles, where they practiced at UCLA.

“Team bonding is underrated. Off-field camaraderie translates to on-field performance. The best teams I’ve been on were tight off the field,” Murray explained.

The Cardinals believe in their potential, having added talent at every skill position and aiming for an improved offensive line to protect Murray.

“The sky’s the limit for this offense,” said Murray. “We’re versatile with great receivers and running backs. Being healthy again, I feel I haven’t scratched the surface of my dual-threat capability.”

The Cardinals underwent a significant rebuild last offseason, led by Ossenfort and Gannon. Murray is impressed with the direction and support from the new leadership.

“They’re doing everything right for the team’s benefit, allowing me to be myself. JG understands me as a competitor and wants us to succeed. Our communication is solid, and I’m excited about our growing relationship,” Murray said.

Although the Cardinals aren’t viewed as strong playoff contenders, there’s a sense of urgency within the team, reflected in their preparation and efforts like the bonding trip.

“We want to hit the ground running despite outside opinions. We know our goals in this locker room, and to achieve them, we have to put in the work,” Murray emphasized.
