LATEST: FSU Big-Bodied Interior Defensive Lineman Leaves For The Huricanes…

The Miami Hurricanes are hosting Florida State defensive tackle commit Myron Charles this weekend.

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 295 pounds, Charles is a sizeable interior defensive lineman. According to 247Sports, he is a four-star prospect and ranks as the No. 213 overall player in the nation.

In June, Charles made official visits to Florida, Texas, Miami, and Florida State before committing to Florida State on June 28th. The Hurricanes have yet to secure a commitment from a defensive tackle for the 2025 class.

During his junior season at Port Charlotte High School in Florida, Charles recorded 29 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.

The 247Sports scouting report describes Charles as an “interior defender with promising size and athleticism,” noting his flexibility, quickness, and versatility in different alignments. Despite being technically raw, he has shown dominant stretches against lesser competition. Measuring over 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds before his junior season, Charles will need time to develop and refine his skills, but he has the potential to become an impact player at the Power Four level if he embraces the necessary work and conditioning.

Assistant coach Kotie Kimble is optimistic about the Miami Hurricanes’ upcoming season, with 10 new players on the roster for 2024-25, including six transfers and four freshmen joining returners Nijel Pack, Matthew Cleveland, and Paul Djobet.

Kimble praised the team’s hard work over the summer and emphasized the importance of building team chemistry through shared experiences, both on and off the court. Pack, entering his third season at Miami and fifth overall, has been highlighted for his leadership.

The freshman class, ranked 12th nationally and third in the ACC by 247Sports, includes Jalil Bethea, Austin Swartz, Isaiah Johnson-Arigu, and Divine Ugochukwu. Kimble noted Bethea’s impressive offensive skills and leadership in assists during practice, while Swartz, Johnson-Arigu, and Ugochukwu have also shown great potential.

The Hurricanes’ roster includes seven seniors, one junior, one sophomore, and four freshmen, providing significant depth and competitive practices. The team’s frontcourt size has been upgraded with 6-foot-10 Lynn Kidd, 6-foot-8 Brandon Johnson, and 6-foot-7 Cleveland as projected starters, along with reserves Kiree Huie (6-9), Yussif Basa-Ama (6-8), and Johnson-Arigu (6-7).

Kimble believes the added size will benefit the team on both ends of the floor and provide flexibility in different matchups throughout the season. The staff aims to leverage this increased physicality and size to improve the team’s performance in the ACC and non-conference play.
