Despite his struggles and unrealized potential at Miami, Van Dyke now has a fresh start and a chance to improve his performance.

Following a turbulent career in Florida, Tyler Van Dyke is now in Madison, Wisconsin, seeking to rejuvenate his football journey. Initially showing great promise, Van Dyke’s production declined significantly after his standout season in 2021. Miami finished that year 7-5 but opted out of their bowl game due to COVID-19 concerns. The coaching change from Manny Diaz to Mario Cristobal in 2022 shifted Miami’s offensive strategy from an open, air raid style to a conventional, pro-style offense, which hampered Van Dyke’s success.
Over the past two seasons, Van Dyke has struggled with consistency, recording only 29 touchdowns compared to the 25 he had in 2021 alone. The coaching changes and a shifting lineup contributed to his inconsistent play, and he spent portions of the last two seasons as a backup following poor performances.

The Wisconsin coaching staff believes Van Dyke’s struggles at Miami were due to the coaching and not his abilities. They are confident that with better management and a more fitting offensive scheme, Van Dyke can lead the team to a competitive finish this season.
In 2021, Van Dyke threw for nearly 3000 yards, added 25 touchdowns, and had a passer rating of 160.1, despite playing behind his worst offensive line. Wisconsin believes that with a better offensive scheme and stronger support, Van Dyke can excel.
Limiting Turnovers, Making Easy Reads Crucial to Success for Van Dyke
Regardless of the scheme or supporting cast, Van Dyke must reduce turnovers to succeed. Although he was sacked only ten times last season, the fewest in his career, he threw a career-high 12 interceptions. These turnovers hindered both his and Miami’s performance, leading to a 7-6 record last season. To unlock his full potential, Van Dyke must make better decisions and capitalize on what the defense offers, avoiding forced throws that lead to interceptions.
