Interesting How Miami Struck It Lucky By Going For a Big Top Cornerback Player…

On Saturday, the Miami football program secured a commitment from four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine, who informed Chad Simmons of On3 that his decision was between LSU and the Hurricanes. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Antoine is the 71st overall prospect, the eighth-ranked cornerback, and the second-ranked player in Louisiana for the 2025 class.

Antoine’s decision to commit to Miami was unexpected, as the 247Sports crystal ball had predicted he would choose LSU, while the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine had projected him to Miami. With Antoine’s commitment, Miami’s 2025 class moved to eighth place, surpassing Clemson, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.

Previously, Miami received commitments from four-star prospect Chris Ewald and three-star Timothy Merritt, both cornerbacks. Antoine is now the second-highest-ranked commit in Miami’s 2025 class, behind safety Hylton Stubbs. Miami is assembling an elite secondary for the 2025 class, with four-star safety Amari Wallace also committed.

Antoine revealed to Josh Newburg of On3 that he informed Miami head coach Mario Cristobal of his decision on Friday. Miami successfully recruited Antoine from Louisiana, with Miami defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson, an LSU alum, playing a significant role, and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry, a Louisiana native, contributing as well.

Antoine adds impressive length to Miami’s secondary at 6’1″ and 175 pounds. Along with Stubbs, Miami now has two top 100 players in their secondary, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Miami is on track to sign the top class in the ACC and a top 10 national class for the third consecutive year.

Defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson has been the primary recruiter for Antoine, Ewald, and Merritt. Antoine’s commitment is especially satisfying for Jackson, an LSU alumnus, who led the recruitment efforts for all three players.

Antoine is the fifth player to commit to Miami in July, joining center Seuseu Alofaituli, linebacker Gavin Nix, safety Hylton Stubbs, and wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw. Alofaituli, Nix, Stubbs, and Antoine are the top four ranked players in Miami’s 2025 class, according to the 247Sports rankings.
