An NFL Insider Reveals: 49ers Will Trade Deebo Samuel In Order To Afford $28 Million Top Star Player…

An NFL insider has suggested that the San Francisco 49ers should trade Deebo Samuel in order to afford extending Brandon Aiyuk. The 49ers are struggling with Aiyuk’s contract negotiations, leading to Aiyuk officially requesting a trade. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk proposes that trading Samuel could free up cap space to secure Aiyuk’s contract.

Before the 2024 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers showed interest in trading for Samuel, but the 49ers’ demands were too high. Aiyuk, being younger and having had a more productive season in 2023 than Samuel, makes him a more logical investment. However, Samuel’s $28.63 million cap hit may deter potential trade partners.

Florio mentioned on The Pat McAfee Show that before the draft, Aiyuk’s agent was allowed to explore other teams willing to meet his salary demands of $28 million per year. Five teams were reportedly ready to pay Aiyuk, but a trade deal couldn’t be reached with the 49ers. The fact that the 49ers have not yet agreed to a trade, despite other teams’ interest, suggests they are either unable to afford Aiyuk’s extension or unwilling to meet his price.

The situation remains unresolved as the regular season approaches.
