Top Coach Ivan Ljubicic Discusses Wimbledon Favorites

As Wimbledon approaches, the top contenders are intensifying their training. In an interview with Sky Sport, Ivan Ljubicic shared his insights on the leading favorites for the tournament. The former coach discussed the current form of key players such as Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic.

Ljubicic began by praising Jannik Sinner, who recently became the world number one and won the ATP 500 in Halle, matching Roger Federer’s achievement. He highlighted Sinner’s consistent approach, noting, “He doesn’t get excited when he wins and doesn’t make a drama when he loses. His greatest talent is his work ethic.”

With Wimbledon imminent, Ljubicic speculated on Sinner’s potential success, drawing parallels to Federer, who often won Wimbledon after triumphing in Halle. He then turned his attention to the other favorites, noting that prior to Roland Garros, there were physical concerns for Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic. However, he now believes Sinner and Alcaraz are in excellent form and are the favorites, while Djokovic, despite recent surgery, remains a strong contender.

Ljubicic emphasized the importance of the first three to four rounds at Wimbledon, suggesting that those who perform well early will solidify their status as favorites.

Sinner Aims for Wimbledon Glory

Sinner, having won the Australian Open, now sets his sights on achieving the rare Australian Open-Wimbledon double. This feat, accomplished only by five players in the Open Era, includes legends like Rod Laver, Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic. Sinner’s recent victory in his first grass tournament at the ATP 500 in Halle, where he defeated Hubert Hurkacz, boosts his confidence as he heads to Wimbledon.

If successful, Sinner will join an exclusive club of players who have won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon in the same year, a testament to his growing prowess and potential in the tennis world.
