Dallas Stars Made Top 3 Stories as Offseason Updates…

The Dallas Stars experienced a tough 2-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, marking a disappointing end to their season. However, they’ve been making notable moves in the offseason, generating significant buzz.

Firstly, there was some positive news regarding player injuries. On June 21, Stars general manager Jim Nill provided an update, revealing that no surgeries were needed for the team this summer. Jani Hakanpaa had an arthroscopic knee procedure but requires no further intervention, while Chris Tanev is set to recover from a tendon injury.

In other news, the Stars signed two players to one-year, two-way contracts on June 24. These contracts are for Matej Blumel and Emilio Pettersen, starting in the 2024-25 NHL season. Blumel had an impressive second AHL season, leading the Texas Stars in goals (31) and ranking second in points (62) over 72 games. He set career highs in assists (31), goals, and points, finishing fifth in the AHL for goals and tying for fifth in power-play goals (11). During the Calder Cup Playoffs, he continued to excel, leading Texas in goals (5) and ranking second in points (9).

Emilio Pettersen, 24, had a strong season split between the Calgary Wranglers and the Texas Stars, tallying 30 points in 54 games before being traded to Dallas on March 7. At the time of his trade, he was second in assists (23) and fourth in points for Calgary. After joining Dallas, Pettersen scored eight points in 12 regular-season games and five points in seven playoff games, tying for fourth in goals and sixth in points during the postseason.

Additionally, the Dallas Stars expanded their community outreach by bringing their Learn to Play hockey program to Mexico City, Mexico, thanks to a collaboration with MoneyGram. This program, created by the NHLPA and the NHL, offers families a chance to engage with the hockey community and helps participants develop essential skills on and off the ice. It aims to inspire youth and welcome new families into the sport.
