Former NFL Star Criticizes Caitlin Clark’s Role in Indiana Fever’s Loss to Chicago Sky

The rivalry between Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese has significantly boosted the WNBA’s popularity. However, former NFL quarterback and sports analyst Robert Griffin III believes Clark was mismanaged by her team in their recent loss to the Sky.

Clark opted out of her final college season to enter the 2024 WNBA Draft, where she was projected to be the top pick. On April 15th, the Indiana Fever selected her first overall. She quickly made an impact, debuting on May 14th and recording her first professional double-double just 10 days later, securing the Fever’s first regular-season win.

On May 28th, Clark made history by becoming the first rookie to achieve a stat line of 30 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks in a single game. She also became the fastest rookie to reach 100 points and 50 assists, earning her the WNBA Rookie of the Month honors for May with averages of 17.6 points, 6.6 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Robert Griffin III voiced his opinion on X, criticizing how Clark was utilized in the final moments. “Caitlin Clark should have taken the last shot. That’s why you have her. For moments like that. Period,” Griffin tweeted.

During the game, Angel Reese scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, with Chennedy Carter adding 23 points and five assists for the Sky. Clark finished with 17 points and 13 assists, as the Fever fell to ninth place with a 7-11 record.

The two teams are set to face each other again on August 30 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana. By then, it is hoped that the Fever will better utilize their star rookie against Reese and her team.
