Report: $20 Million Goalie Has Maple Leafs on His No-Trade List…

Boston Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark has reportedly placed the Toronto Maple Leafs on his no-trade list, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. Ullmark, who signed a four-year, $20 million deal with Boston in 2021, is entering the final year of his contract and is expected to be traded, with Jeremy Swayman taking over as the starting goalie.

While the Maple Leafs have been linked to Ullmark in a potential trade, that won’t be an option as he has included them on his 15-team no-trade list. Pagnotta suggests that Ullmark is likely to find a new team within the next two weeks, with the Ottawa Senators showing significant interest. The Senators had pursued Ullmark during the season and have renewed their efforts, while the Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, and Carolina Hurricanes are also exploring goaltending options. However, the Maple Leafs are no longer in the running due to Ullmark’s no-trade list.

Ullmark negotiated a no-trade clause in his contract, allowing him to block deals to 15 teams, and has opted to prevent a trade to Toronto.

In the playoffs, Ullmark started two games against Toronto, posting a 3.90 goals-against average and a .886 save percentage. With Ullmark off the table, the Maple Leafs will need to look at other goaltending options. They have been linked to Laurent Brossoit, Anthony Stolarz, and Cam Talbot.

Toronto is expected to let Ilya Samsonov leave in free agency and add another goalie to pair with Joseph Woll. General Manager Brad Treliving emphasized the need to support Woll and improve the goaltending position.

Although Ullmark has limited his market by including Toronto on his no-trade list, the Ottawa Senators have emerged as a potential destination. Despite being on Ullmark’s no-trade list, he would reportedly waive it to join the Senators. Talks between the Bruins and Senators are ongoing, but Boston is not interested in Joonas Korpisalo, who has a $4 million cap hit over the next four years. Ottawa GM Steve Staios will need to be creative to land Ullmark or another top goaltender, as the Senators are determined to secure a starting goalie.
