Breaking News: Golden State Warriors on the Verge of Loosing a Valuable Asset to Cleveland Cavaliers…

Cleveland Cavaliers Nearing Acquisition of Golden State Warriors Asset

The Cleveland Cavaliers are still searching for a new head coach after parting ways with JB Bickerstaff. New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego is reportedly the frontrunner for the position, especially since the Los Angeles Lakers have chosen JJ Redick.

However, NBA insider Marc Stein reports that Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson is gaining traction for the Cavs’ head coaching role.

“Latest from the NBA coaching carousel: Heard multiple times today that Kenny Atkinson is gaining steam for Cleveland’s job. James Borrego had initially been more widely billed as the favorite in coaching circles; Minnesota’s Micah Nori also in contention.”

Will Kenny Atkinson Secure the Cleveland Cavaliers Coaching Position?
There is no certainty that Borrego or Atkinson will land the job, as other candidates are still being considered. However, it currently seems likely that one of these coaches will be hired by Cleveland, following their second-round exit in the 2024 NBA Playoffs against the Boston Celtics.

Like Borrego, Atkinson brings head coaching experience. Before his tenure with the Warriors, Atkinson was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from the 2016-17 season to the 2019-20 season, achieving an overall record of 118-190. He also served as an assistant coach for the New York Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks.

In the 2018-19 season, Atkinson finished fifth in the Coach of the Year voting, earning two first-place votes for an award that was ultimately won by then Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer.
