BREAKING NEWS: B.C.’s Logan Stankoven Reflects on Unforgettable first NHL Season Experience with Dallas Star…

B.C.’s Logan Stankoven Reflects on Debut NHL Season with Dallas

Logan Stankoven, a native of British Columbia, had an eventful year making his NHL debut with the Dallas Stars in February. He was honored as the American Hockey League’s rookie of the year, scored his first NHL goal on his 21st birthday, and netted his first playoff goal during Game 3 of the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Reflecting on his unexpected call-up from the AHL’s Texas Stars, Stankoven told CBC’s Daybreak Kamloops host Shelley Joyce, “I just wanted to put myself in the best position for a call-up, so it was pretty cool.”

Back in Kamloops after the Stars’ loss in the Western Conference Final, Stankoven is enjoying some downtime while preparing for the upcoming season with Dallas. He appreciates being home with family, friends, and his parents’ cooking, and loves the hot, dry summers in Kamloops, which feels like a supportive small town despite its size.

During the season, Stankoven and teammate Wyatt Johnston stayed at NHL veteran Joe Pavelski’s home, an experience he described as better than staying in a hotel. Pavelski has been a mentor, helping young players grow as both athletes and individuals.

Stankoven was also encouraged by Oilers captain Connor McDavid, who complimented him after Dallas’s loss in the Western Conference Final, calling him a great player, which left Stankoven starstruck.

His parents have been very supportive, becoming fast fans of the Dallas Stars after their son’s call-up, despite being lifelong Canucks fans. They celebrated his first NHL goal and playoff goals together, proud of his accomplishments.

Stankoven plans to train with a local athletic therapist over the summer to improve his performance for the next season. He aims to be a more reliable player for Dallas, learning from past mistakes and refining his skills. He’ll also enjoy some leisure time on the golf course and by his parents’ pool, staying in Kamloops until Labor Day weekend before returning to Dallas for training camp.
