Jrue Holiday Praises Passionate Celtics Fans and Reflects on His Transition to the Team
Jrue Holiday recently discussed his shift from being a Boston Celtics rival to becoming a vital team member. In a pre-parade interview with Brian Scalabrine, Holiday shared his thoughts on joining the Celtics.
“Fans can be intense and confrontational, but I’m happy to be on this side now,” he remarked.
Holiday, who previously played for the Milwaukee Bucks, found the atmosphere at TD Garden intense and sometimes daunting. He described Celtics fans as passionate and fierce, creating a challenging environment. Now a Celtic himself, he appreciates the support from these ardent fans.
Reflecting on his initial feelings about joining the Celtics, Holiday admitted he was nervous due to past interactions with the team.
“I was nervous at first. There were a few things I did against the Celtics that they probably didn’t like, but once I got the call, I was overjoyed and excited, knowing we had something special.”
His excitement quickly overshadowed any concerns once he joined the Celtics, as he anticipated great potential with his new team.
Holiday’s path to the Celtics included several trades. Initially traded from the Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers in the Damian Lillard deal, the Celtics quickly acquired him to strengthen their lineup.
During the Celtics’ title run, Holiday played a crucial role as their best perimeter defender, contributing significantly to their defensive success. His season statistics included averages of 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, with shooting efficiency of 48.0% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range.
His defensive skills earned him a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, marking his third selection to the second team and his sixth overall defensive accolade in his career.
Recognizing Holiday’s importance, the Celtics secured him with a four-year, $135 million extension before the playoffs, underscoring their commitment to him as a core part of their roster.
