Breaking News: Bruins’ Ullmark Expresses Surprise by Leafs’ Decision on Samsonov in Playoffs…

Bruins’ Ullmark Surprised Leafs Stuck with Samsonov for So Many Playoff Games…

Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark shared his candid thoughts on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ goaltending strategy.

During an interview on Leafs Morning Take with Nick Alberga and former NHL goalie Carton Hutton, Ullmark opened up about his offseason routine, his partnership with Bruins’ goalie Jeremy Swayman, and potential offseason trades.

When asked about Joseph Woll, Ullmark honestly critiqued how Toronto managed their goalies Woll and Samsonov during the playoffs.

“I was surprised they kept Samsonov in for so many games against us,” Ullmark admitted. “Whenever we played the Leafs with Woll in net, it felt more challenging. Even as an observer, Woll seemed more in control of the situations thrown at him.”

Ullmark, who recorded a 22-10-7 record in 40 games last season, praised Woll’s technical skills and expressed curiosity about the Maple Leafs’ plans for him in the 2024-25 season.

“He’s like many young goalies today, very technically sound,” Ullmark noted. “The mental aspect might be his biggest hurdle, which comes with experience. He’s progressed quickly and looks terrific.”

Ullmark pondered the Leafs’ next steps: “Will they keep him and bring in another goalie, or will they ease him in with 25 to 30 games? It will be interesting to see.”

Samsonov, who battled injuries, posted a 12-11-1 record with a .907 save percentage and a 2.94 goals-against average in 25 appearances. In the playoffs, he went 2-0 with a .964 save percentage but missed the deciding Game 7 due to injury.
