4-Star Defensive Back Gregory Xavier Thomas Sets Commitment Date

Gregory Xavier Thomas, a four-star defensive back in the class of 2025, has announced the date of his college commitment.

Despite Florida State football‘s current ranking outside the top 60 in the 2025 247Sports Composite rankings, the coaching staff is working hard to build momentum in their recruiting efforts.

This weekend, several highly-touted prospects will be visiting the campus. For a comprehensive list of these recruits, be sure to check out our detailed article. This weekend presents a prime opportunity for the coaching staff to lay a strong foundation for future rosters.

One of the key targets is Gregory Xavier Thomas from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. He has been a frequent topic of discussion and remains a top priority for the Seminoles. Until recently, the timing of his decision was unknown, but on Thursday night, Thomas announced both his commitment date and his potential choices.

Thomas will make his decision on June 30th. He already shares a strong bond with Florida State’s defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr., who was previously his head coach at American Heritage.

Clemson poses a significant challenge, given the unpredictable nature of teenage recruiting decisions. Nonetheless, Florida State has been diligently working to secure Thomas’s commitment to Tallahassee.

Additionally, Thomas’s high school teammate, four-star running back Byron Louis, will be visiting Florida State this weekend. Louis, who does not have an offer from Clemson, has expressed his desire on Instagram for Thomas to join him at Florida State.

Securing commitments from both Thomas and Louis would be a substantial achievement for Florida State’s recruiting efforts. This summer promises to be a pivotal period for the Seminoles.

Patrick Payton is expected to lead a talented defensive front, with Marvin Jones Jr., a Georgia transfer, anticipated to have a standout season. Miami transfer Darrell Jackson adds significant presence, and CB Azareye’h Thomas could contend for All-American honors.
