Report: Why 49ers’ Purdy to Mentor Bears’ Top Draft Pick This Offseason…

49ers’ Purdy to Train with Bears’ Top Pick Williams This Offseason…

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will get a chance to learn from Brock Purdy, 2022’s Mr. Irrelevant.

In an interview on 670 The Score’s “Parker and Spiegel” show, Purdy’s personal quarterback coach, Will Hewlett, mentioned that the 49ers’ quarterback will be among several NFL players training with Williams as he gears up for his rookie season.

“He’ll [Williams] be working with Brock Purdy, [Indianapolis Colts QB] Anthony Richardson,” Hewlett shared. “We’ve got, let’s see, [Tennessee Titans QB] Mason Rudolph, [Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB] John Wolford. There’s a bunch of other guys coming out.

I think [Buccaneers QB] Kyle Trask will be out here for a little bit. Yeah, there’s a number of pro guys that’ll be out. (h/t Yardbarker)

Purdy, who was drafted 262nd overall by San Francisco in 2022, has achieved remarkable success in his two NFL seasons, including leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in his second year.

At 24, Purdy set a single-season passing yard record for San Francisco in 2023 and is considered one of the league’s top quarterbacks when performing at his best.

He holds a 19-5 record as a starting quarterback, amassing 5,654 yards, 44 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 25 professional games.

Williams, facing high expectations as he enters the NFL, now has the opportunity to learn from Purdy, who transitioned from college to the pros with little initial recognition but quickly made a significant impact during his rookie season.
