Denver Nuggets forward Vlatko Cancar tore the ACL in his left knee during a World Cup preparation game for Slovenia on Friday, as confirmed by sources to ESPN.

The injury occurred after Cancar landed awkwardly from a transition dunk during a game against Greece. He had to be assisted off the court, and an MRI later confirmed the ACL tear, which might cause him to miss the entire next season.

Cancar, 26, averaged 5.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game as a reserve for the NBA champion Nuggets last season. He had the opportunity to take on a larger role following the departures of key bench players Bruce Brown and Jeff Green.

With Cancar’s injury, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic remains the only active NBA player set to play for Slovenia in the World Cup.
