Tyler Locklear Set to Join Mariners Following Ty France’s Injury…

Tyler Locklear, a highly anticipated top-100 prospect, is reportedly being called up by the Seattle Mariners to replace the injured Ty France, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.

Locklear is en route from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers to join the Mariners in Kansas City, marking his major league debut.

Selected in the second round of the 2022 draft (58th overall), Locklear joins first-round pick SS Cole Young as one of the Mariners’ top-100 prospects, with Baseball America ranking him at No. 83.

Locklear has shown impressive power in Triple-A, hitting nine home runs in 51 games. The 23-year-old’s power potential ranges between 25-30 home runs.

Locklear’s success is attributed to his raw power, selective swinging, and ability to make quality contact. Although he struggles to hit balls outside the strike zone, he focuses on swinging within the zone, which leads to a high strikeout rate but substantial power output.

The Virginia Commonwealth University product is known for his strength, as evidenced by his performance in the minors.

If Locklear is called up, Ty France will likely be placed on the injured list due to a foot injury from a fouled ball. This injury could prompt the Mariners to seek additional offensive reinforcements.

Locklear’s promotion is a logical choice given his performance in Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma, and the ease of evaluating his potential within the organization.

With no other first basemen among top prospects Harry Ford and Cole Young, Locklear has an opportunity to secure his spot and influence the Mariners’ strategy as they approach the trade deadline.
