Breaking: Bears Expected to Re-sign TE Marcedes Lewis For 2024…

The Chicago Bears are expected to re-sign veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. Lewis, 40, will meet with the Bears’ organization on Monday, with plans to return for the 2024 season. Entering his 19th NFL season, Lewis already holds the record for the most seasons played by a tight end, which he will extend if he joins the Bears’ roster again.

Last season, Lewis played for the Bears, catching 4 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown, primarily contributing as a blocking tight end. Despite his age, he was one of the most efficient tight ends in the league, participating in 29% of the Bears’ offensive snaps in 2023.

Lewis, the only player from the 2006 NFL Draft still active, spent 12 years with the Jacksonville Jaguars and five seasons with the Green Bay Packers before joining the Bears. He will rejoin Cole Kmet in the Bears’ tight end lineup, with Gerald Everett expected to take over the second-string role from Robert Tonyan.
