Analyst Suggests a ‘Simple Fix’ for Mavericks in Game 2
The Dallas Mavericks shouldn’t be too concerned just yet. They underperformed in Game 1, and Joe Mazzulla appeared to out-coach Jason Kidd on both ends of the court. Despite this, the team has the capability to make the necessary adjustments for a better showing in Game 2.
Moreover, they might not need significant changes to regain their footing in the series. Former NBA player Rick Mahorn expressed this view on SiriusXM NBA Radio, stating that the Mavericks simply need to make their shots.
However, Mahorn also noted that the Boston Celtics’ experience at this stage could be advantageous for them. He believes the Celtics’ battle-tested nature is an important factor.
Mahorn emphasized that Kyrie Irving must lead by example and step up as a seasoned veteran, given his past experience in similar situations. The Mavericks must also improve their team play, having recorded only eight assists in Game 1, with two occurring when the outcome was already decided.
While Irving and Luka Doncic are exceptional offensive players capable of winning games on their own, basketball is fundamentally a team sport. With the Celtics’ depth in shot-makers, even two future Hall of Famers like Irving and Doncic will need support from their teammates.
