During an offseason marked as much by off-the-field controversies as by being the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs made a positive impression this weekend.

Millions of young people, rightly or wrongly, view these athletes as role models, making it heartening to see stars take on this responsibility and give back to their communities.

Harold R. Kuntz reported that Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown, and Mecole Hardman attended a youth football camp at Central High School on Saturday morning.

Rice addressed the youth following an impressive rookie season where he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns.

However, his offseason was marred by legal issues stemming from a multi-vehicle accident in Texas in March that led to several criminal charges.

There was also an altercation with a photographer at a Dallas nightclub, though the alleged victim has chosen not to pursue charges.

Hardman’s presence is a welcome sight for Kansas City fans after re-signing with the team on a one-year deal on Thursday.

To strengthen their thin receiving corps, the Chiefs signed Hardman, brought Brown on a similar one-year contract, and drafted Worthy.

The appearance of this particular group at Central High School to share their knowledge and experience with aspiring young athletes is a positive sign of team unity.

For Chiefs fans, it’s encouraging that the offseason’s issues are becoming a thing of the past as another title defense begins.
