The Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to meet with UConn coach Dan Hurley on Friday to discuss the possibility of him becoming their next head coach.

Dan Hurley is set to meet with Lakers’ vice president of basketball operations, Rob Pelinka, and owner Jeanie Buss, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Lakers’ search for a new coach has intensified, with Hurley now considered the leading candidate. Discussions are already underway regarding a potential deal, which is expected to be significant in terms of both length and salary.

LeBron James has praised Hurley, calling him “so damn good” and “super creative” with his offensive strategies.

Hurley, 51, has led UConn to consecutive NCAA titles.

Jason Kidd has shared his thoughts on the Lakers’ coaching candidates, endorsing both Dan Hurley and JJ Redick.

The Lakers’ pursuit of a new head coach has been a major topic recently. While JJ Redick was initially seen as a top contender, Dan Hurley has emerged as the likely choice, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has expressed support for both candidates, highlighting their high basketball IQs and different paths to coaching.

Kidd, who played with Hurley in high school, described him as a warrior and champion, and also praised Redick’s understanding of the game.

Kidd, who was an assistant coach with the Lakers during their 2020 championship run, is now in the NBA Finals for the first time as a head coach, having previously won a championship as a player with the Mavericks in 2011.
