Veteran pitcher Johnny Cueto, who joined the Rangers on a minor league contract in April, has agreed to extend his opt-out dates after originally having one in early June.
Now, his opt-out dates are set for June 14 and July 1. If he isn’t added to the main roster by either of these dates, Cueto can choose to leave the team.
Cueto, aged 38, aims to bounce back from a tough season with the Marlins last year, where he struggled with a high ERA. Despite improvements in his strikeout rate, his performance was below average.
With injuries plaguing the Rangers’ pitching staff, Cueto provides valuable depth. The team hopes to integrate him into the roster soon, especially given the recent setbacks faced by key pitchers.
Cueto’s recent performances suggest he may soon earn a spot in the major league lineup.
