Grant Williams isn’t as upset about the NBA Finals matchup this year as you might expect…
The Charlotte Hornets forward has been the target of numerous memes and jokes online due to the Boston Celtics-Dallas Mavericks Finals clash. Williams previously played for both teams but was traded by each over the past year. He began his NBA career with the Celtics, then moved to the Mavericks in a sign-and-trade last offseason. In February, the Mavericks traded him to the struggling Hornets as part of the PJ Washington deal.
On Friday, Williams responded to an Instagram post by Overtime, which stated, “He woke up sad as hell today.”
“Woke up feeling blessed,” Williams replied. “Both teams have great people, and it was an honor to learn from them.”
This is a classy response from Williams, although it likely stings a bit that both teams are thriving after his departure. There have also been rumors that Williams was not particularly well-liked at one of his former teams.
On the plus side, Williams was part of a Finals run with the Celtics in 2022. He might be cheering for the Mavericks to win it all this year since he could still receive a ring from them, having been part of their roster earlier this season.
