Yeo joined the Canucks’ coaching staff in 2022, under Bruce Boudreau. Before his tenure in Vancouver, Yeo held various coaching positions in the NHL, including Assistant Coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, and Head Coach for the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues. He was part of the Penguins’ 2009 Stanley Cup-winning team.

Sportsnet’s Satiar Shah reported that Yeo was offered a contract extension by the Canucks, which he declined in order to pursue other opportunities. Yeo’s departure is notable, as he was responsible for the team’s penalty kill, which saw significant improvement this season, rising from the worst in the league to 17th. His contributions were key in Vancouver’s victory over the Nashville Predators in the first round of the playoffs.

Yeo’s efforts also stood out in the second round against the Edmonton Oilers, where the Canucks were eliminated in seven games. Despite the loss, the team’s overall improvements were evident.

Yeo Likely to Find Work Quickly

Given his extensive NHL experience, Yeo is expected to find a new coaching position soon. Meanwhile, the Canucks will need to address the gap left by his departure, particularly regarding the penalty kill’s performance next season.
