Report: An Insider Reveals the Marlins DFA Mystery Player from Luis Arraez Trade in Deal with Rangers…

Marlins DFA Player from Luis Arraez Trade in Rangers Deal

The Miami Marlins have acquired right-hander Shaun Anderson from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash. To make room for Anderson on the roster, Miami designated right-hander Woo-Suk Go for assignment, according to Craig Mish of The Miami Herald:

“Marlins acquired pitcher Shaun Anderson from the Rangers for cash. The Woo-Suk Go brief Marlins era is over. He was DFA’d as the corresponding move. He was in the Arraez trade for posterity.”

Go, 25, was a top reliever in the KBO and joined MLB through the posting system this winter. He initially signed a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the Padres but was quickly released and sent to the Marlins as part of the Luis Arraez trade earlier this month.

Since the trade, Go has performed well in Triple-A, pitching nine innings with a 3.00 ERA. Scouting reports indicated his fastball could reach 98 mph in the KBO, but at Padres’ spring training, he was reported to be in the 92-94 mph range, topping out at 95 mph. San Diego had hoped he could be a late-inning reliever but lost enthusiasm, resulting in his inclusion in the Arraez trade.

The Marlins’ decision to remove Go from the 40-man roster suggests they share the Padres’ doubts about his potential at the MLB level. Due to his $4.5 million contract, Go is likely to clear waivers. If he does, the Marlins have five days to seek trade options before placing him on waivers becomes necessary. If he clears waivers, Go would likely accept an assignment to Jacksonville, aiming to earn a spot in the Marlins’ bullpen while continuing to collect his salary.

Marlins Trade Star Arraez Earlier This Month

Earlier this month, the Miami Marlins traded two-time batting champion Luis Arraez to the San Diego Padres along with nearly $8 million in exchange for four players. San Diego is only responsible for the major league minimum salary for Arraez.

The trade was somewhat unexpected but aligns with Miami’s struggles this season. Last year, the Marlins barely made the playoffs, winning 33 games by one run, and were outmatched in the postseason. Arraez had been a trade candidate for the struggling Marlins, who exchanged him for prospects.

After the trade, Arraez expressed gratitude to the Marlins and excitement for his new opportunity with the Padres:

“I want to thank the Marlins for the opportunity and my teammates for making me feel like part of the family since day one. Marlins fans, I’m forever grateful for your unconditional love and support. Padres, thanks for believing in me; I’m so ready for this new challenge!”

Arraez has been excelling in San Diego, having an eight-game streak of multi-hit performances earlier this month, totaling 21 hits during that period.
