REPORT: An ardent Oilers superfan is eagerly awaiting a potential victory for Edmonton, as it would provide the perfect opportunity to refresh his extensive Stanley Cup tattoo…

One die-hard Oilers fan has been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to update his extensive Stanley Cup back tattoo, hoping that this year will finally be the year for the Oilers to claim another championship title.

Kevin Genest’s devotion to the Oilers is unmistakable from the moment you lay eyes on his car, adorned with a bold blue color, orange stripe, and decals celebrating the team. From “Play La Bamba!” to a tally of the Oilers’ playoff victories, his vehicle is a mobile tribute to his beloved team. Genest, a lifelong Edmontonian, has also proudly displayed Oilers-themed tattoos, including the team logo, the year of their NHL debut (’79), and the iconic blue and orange jersey stripes. However, the centerpiece of his fandom is the massive Stanley Cup tattoo that spans most of his back.

Genest’s journey with the Stanley Cup tattoo dates back to 2006 when he participated in The Really, Really Tough Contest organized by Edmonton radio station 100.3 The Bear. Entrants were assigned outrageous tasks to complete for a chance to win a cash prize. Genest’s task? Getting a Stanley Cup tattoo on his back in one sitting, which lasted a grueling nine and a half hours. Though he didn’t win the prize, Genest cherishes the experience, especially during the excitement of the Oilers’ playoff run.

Over nearly two decades, Genest’s tattoo has faded, prompting him to consider adding new elements, such as the names of players who have contributed to Oilers’ victories and iconic numbers like 97 and 99.

As the Oilers continue their playoff journey, Genest’s dedication remains unwavering, and for fellow fans interested in showing their allegiance with ink, free Oilers-themed tattoos have been offered during games at the arena.
