Ben Boycott asserts that acquiring the freehold of Bescot Stadium safeguarded Walsall from a significant existential threat.

The Trivela Group committed to purchasing the freehold of the stadium immediately after their takeover in the summer of 2022, completing the transaction by December that year.

This acquisition marked the first time since 1990 that Walsall owned its home ground, a move Boycott considers crucial for the club’s long-term stability.

“The stadium issue was critical. It’s no exaggeration to say that the club faced an existential threat in 2021 due to the rental situation,” explained the co-chairman.

“It has been well-documented that the club had an option to buy the stadium, which Trivela exercised, resulting in our current ownership of the stadium.”
